Dr. Madhurjyya Mondit Baruah, MA, PhD
Registrar, Auniati University

Dr. Madhurjyya Mondit Baruah is a distinguished academician, administrator, and prolific author, currently serving as the Registrar of Auniati University, Kaliapani, Teok, Jorhat, Assam. With an illustrious career spanning over two decades, Dr. Baruah has made significant contributions to the fields of Assamese literature, research, and higher education administration. He also holds the position of Visiting Professor at Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya, and is a respected member of the Assamese Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi (2023–2027), as well as the Steering Committee of Asom Sahitya Sabha (2025–2027).

Born on June 24, 1974, in Khutikatia, Nagaon, Assam, Dr. Baruah completed his MA in Assamese Literature and later earned his PhD from Gauhati University in 2016. His professional journey began as a lecturer at Nowgong Girls College and Madhavdev College, Nagaon, before taking up the role of Principal at Srimanta Sankardev College, Nagaon. He subsequently joined Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya, Nasatra, where he served in various capacities, including Assistant Professor, Head of the Department of Assamese, Associate Professor, Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Director of Research, and In-Charge of Spiritual Studies Course. In October 2024, he joined Auniati University as Deputy Registrar and was soon promoted to Registrar, where he continues to play a pivotal role in academic and administrative leadership.

Dr. Baruah is an accomplished research supervisor, having guided a total of twelve PhD scholars, with several already awarded their degrees and others at various stages of research. The awarded scholars under his supervision include Rumi Kalita, Madhurjya Pegu, Jogesh Lahkar, Rajib Narayan Kalita, and Bipul Deka, while others such as Nitul Kumar Medhi, Prasanta Dutta, Rekha Saikia, Upasana Sharma, Trinayan Konch, Debojit Borah, and Sushmita Begum are progressing with their research on diverse topics related to Assamese literature, culture, and society.

A prolific writer, Dr. Baruah has authored and edited an impressive array of publications. His published books include the monumental three-volume "Asom Buranji" (2022), which comprehensively documents the history of Assam from ancient times to the present. Other notable research works are "Ram Saraswati" (2007), "Srimanta Sankardevar Janmasthan" (2009), "Bezbaruar Janmasthan" (2019), "Sangbadikatat Nagaon 1864–1999" (1999), "Asomiya Mahabharatiya Sahitya" (2020), "Adhunik Asom aru Sankardev Charcha" (2019), and "Kalita Jatir Itihas" (2020). His creative and critical works include "Ulfar Sapoon" (2004), "Shakalure Hoi Neki Enekua Ashukh" (2004), "Bhasha-Sahityar Oitirjya" (2005), "Purani Sahityar Saneki" (2005), "Pratham Sakhyat" (2005), "Sahityar Juti" (2005), and "Mrityur Sadhana" (2005). Dr. Baruah’s forthcoming novel "Dasarathidasagriva" is currently in press.

As an editor, he has contributed to several significant publications, such as "Dr. Bhupen Hazarika" (2011), "Ramsutar Paror Pora Kolongparoloi" (2010), "Srimanta Sankaradeva Koox (Bhasha aru Sahitya Khanda)" (in press), and "Abismaraniyo Mahim Borah" (2016). In addition to his books, Dr. Baruah has published over 300 articles, including editorial and political analyses in leading daily newspapers, and has edited journals, magazines, and newspapers like Ganatantra, Rong, Ananya, Purush, Dainik Ajir Batori, Kavach, and Natun Abhijan.

Dr. Baruah’s commitment to academic excellence is reflected in his active participation in various academic bodies and committees. He has served as a member of the Syllabus Committee of the PG Course in Assamese at Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, member of the Constitution Committee of Asam Sahitya Sabha, and held key positions in organizations such as Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani and Yuva Sahitya Samaj, Asom. He is also the Honorary Director of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalatirtha, Kapahera, Morigaon, and Prachya Bharati Research Institute, Nagaon, and serves as Editor of the half-yearly multilingual research journal "SANGHATI."

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Baruah has received numerous awards and honors, including the Kabya Saraswat Sanman (2013), Ram Saraswati Award (2018), Birina Sahitya Bota (2020), Ranju Hazarika Sahitya Award (2022), Karmayogi Award (2023), Human Rights Award (2023), Asom Itihas Govesana Bota (2024), and Sangbad-Sahitya Award (2025).
